The Atkin J-45 is based on the classic Gibson models of the 1940s, known for their big open sound and warm, woody mid-range. The shorter 24.9-inch scale length is a big part of that, as is the classic slope-shouldered body shape, but our spin on the J-45 is not just by the numbers. Having repaired many vintage examples over the years, we’ve come to know just what makes this incredible guitar tick. Our J-45 is popular among singer-songwriters, rock and country players just as you’d expect, but it’s grand tone is also favoured by folk, flatpicking and fingestyle guitarists.
Offered in all Atkin models, the Rosewood Series is perhaps our most popular range. Long prized in premium guitar construction, the combination of a spruce top and a rosewood back and sides has been favoured by great players in practically every genre. In our guitars, the blend of Sitka spruce and East Indian rosewood produces a strong, powerful tone with controlled mids and pronounced yet perfectly balanced bass and treble. With exceptional dynamics and superb tone, the Rosewood Series can whisper or roar and sound sweet or savage, all depending on the player’s intentions.
As befits a premium model, the Rosewood Series is decorated with black/white/black purfling and ebony binding, our signature tortoiseshell rosette, a chevron backstrip and an ebony headstock overlay.
